CLAT 2018: Registration, Eligibility, Pattern, Exam Dates

CLAT 2018Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is one of the famous law entrance exams organized by 18 National Law Universities (NLUs) rotationally. It will be the all India level law common entrance exam for the students seeking admission in integrated LL.B. and LL.M. program. Every year, the CLAT is organized on second Sunday of the May month. CLAT Scores are accepted by various private law colleges and government undertaking colleges across the country.  From the year 2016, there has been no maximum age limit in CLAT for UG courses. The CLAT exam organizing committee has now added age criteria i.e. Unreserved/NRIs/NRI Sponsored categories candidates 20 years as on 1st July 2018 is the age criteria. Candidates those who are SC/ST/OBC/Specially abled Persons (SAP) category candidates, the maximum age limit will be 22 years as on 1st July 2018. Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for the exam, candidates must have to refer the eligibility criteria. Following are the eligibility criteria for the exam.

For UG Courses: The upper age limit for the examination will not be more than 20 years as on 1st July 2018 (for unreserved category candidates/NRIs/NRI Sponsored candidates) and 22 years for SC/ST/OBC/SAP category candidates. For considering the candidates as eligible for CLAT 2018, he/she must have passed the 12th examination with minimum 45% marks (40% for SC/ST candidates). Candidates those who are appearing for the 12th examination in March/April will also be eligible for CLAT 2018. Such candidates must have to present the proof of passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission.

For PG Courses: The required qualification for LL.M. course is LL.B./Five-Year Integrated LL.B. (Hons.)/ Any other equivalent exam. The minimum percentage of marks in qualifying examination will be 55% for unreserved /OBC/Specially Abled Persons (SAP). In case of SC/ST, the minimum marks will be 50%. Candidates those who are appearing for Final semester/final year examination can also apply for the exam. There will be no prescribed maximum age limit for PG courses.

CLAT 2018 Application Form

CLAT 2018 application form can be filled through online only. The application form will be available from the official website of CLAT. It will be published on the first week of January 2018. Candidates must have to register themselves by creating a LOGIN account using an e-mail ID. At the time of filling the application form, candidates must have to fill the preference order for NLU’s. Candidates must have to upload the scanned copies of signature and photograph (30 mm x 45 mm) with size not more than 100 KB. Hard copy of the filled application form will not be accepted by CLAT office.

CLAT 2018 Application Fee

After filling the application form, candidates must have to pay the application fee. The application fee varies for different category students. Following table refers to the application fee for different category candidates.

Application fee can be paid through net banking/credit card or debit card.

CLAT 2018 Exam Pattern

For getting higher marks in the examination candidates must have to refer the exam pattern. Following are the exam pattern points for different courses.

For UG Courses: The online examination of CLAT will be conducted for integrated UG law courses. The exam will be conducted in online mode (computer Based Test). There will be only objective type questions of maximum 200 marks.  The time period for the CLAT exam will be 2 hours. The medium of question paper will be English only. For each right answer, one mark will be awarded. There will be a system of negative marking. 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

 For PG Courses: The online examination of CLAT will be conducted for post-graduate law courses (i.e. LL.M.). The exam will be conducted in online mode (computer Based Test) only. There will be only multiple-choice questions of maximum 150 marks. The time period of CLAT exam will be 2 hours. The medium of question paper will be English only. For each right answer, one mark will be awarded. There will be a system of negative marking. 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

CLAT 2018 Syllabus

CLAT Syllabus for UG course will touch areas like English including Comprehension, General Knowledge, Mathematics (taught up to 10th class), Legal Aptitude and Legal Reasoning. Syllabus for PG courses will be having of Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence and other law subjects such as Contract, Torts, Criminal Law, International Law, Environment Law and Human Rights.

CLAT Question Papers

Candidate’s can download the previous year question papers for their reference. It can be done through the CLAT website by making the payment of Rs. 4000/-. The payment can be made through online mode only. There will be no hard copy of the questions papers provided by CLAT office.

CLAT Admit Card 2018

Candidates those who are successfully registered will be eligible for downloading the CLAT 2018 admit card. The admit card will be published on CLAT website in the third week of April 2018. Candidates don’t have to wait for the admit card via post or e-mail; it will be published through online mode only. Along with the admit card, candidates must have to carry one identity proof to the examination centre.

CLAT 2018 Answer Key

The authority will publish the CLAT 2018 answer key on the third week of May 2018. The official answer key will be having of all the actual answers of the online examination of CLAT. Candidates can submit their request in case of any discrepancy in answer key.

CLAT Result 2018 

The approximate date for the declaration of CLAT 2018 result will be on the official site http://clat.ac.in/ on the last week of May 2018. The result will be having candidate’s rank and scores obtained in entrance exam. Candidates can check their results by entering their login details.

CLAT 2018 Cut-Off

CLAT 2018 cut-off will be decided after the announcement of results. Exam conducting authority will consider various factors for calculating the cut-off marks like difficulty level of question paper, number of candidates attempted the exam and previous year’s cut-off trends.

CLAT Merit List 2018

After the declaration of result, separate merit list will be published for UG and PG programs. Category-wise merit list will also be published along with the result. Merit list will show state as well as All India Rank of examinees.

CLAT Counseling

The admission to UG and PG programs in participating NLUs will be organized through centralized counseling conducted by CLAT office. CLAT counseling 2018 will be held in the first week of June 2018 tentatively. The online counseling will be having of 4 rounds. Allotment of the seats will be done on the basis of ‘merit-cum-preference’. Candidates those who are selected for admission must have to pay the counseling fee of Rs.  50,000/- at CLAT-2018 Office. Counseling fee will be further adjusted in the admission fees.
